Aaron Carter’s beloved dog Zelda is in good hands.
The late singer’s 3-year-old German Shepherd is now living with girlfriend Melanie Martin’s relatives, according to TMZ.
The outlet reports that Melanie’s sister, Jennifer Martin, and her boyfriend, Max, adopted the puppy one day after Carter was found dead in his bathtub at the age of 34, with Zelda next to him.
The couple said they “felt right to bring Zelda in” as Melanie was “going through a lot” after the former child star died on November 5.
“[Zelda] apparently in shock when she was found … acting anxious and scared,” the couple told TMZ, adding that she is doing “much better” now after the traumatic event.
The couple also noted that she is “not going to fix it, but they don’t want more puppies” since Zelda has already had two litters.
Carter was also the father of another dog named Karma. TMZ reports that she was “not as big as Zelda” and was taken back to one of Jennifer’s employees.
Earlier this week, Carter’s former manager, Taylor Helgeson, told Page Six that cyberbullying was slowly “breaking” the singer over time.
“It was like a nightmare,” Helgeson said of the continued hate the late “I Want Candy” singer received. “It was relentless. He was so relentless and, yes, it did a number on him.”
Helgeson also told us that Aaron hasn’t had a chance to work things out with his older brother, Nick Carter, after their years of public feud.
“I know they had plans … to get together, sorry,” the manager said of his relationship with the Backstreet Boys member.
“I don’t know when, but I know they wanted to – that was the idea. “
Nick, 42, wrote an emotional tribute to his brother, writing in part, “Although my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never left.
“I’ve always hoped that somehow, at some point, he would walk a healthy path and finally find the help he so desperately needed,” he continued. we want to blame someone or something for a loss. But the truth is that addiction and mental illness are the real villain here.”
Aaron was reportedly surrounded by compressed air cans and pill bottles when he died. His official cause of death has yet to be released, pending toxicology results.
