Vice President Barack Obama he sure likes hanging out with rock stars. Bruce Springsteen podcast co-host he has a lot of famous friends, and it’s obvious that he enjoyed entertaining legends during his stay at the White House. It’s strange to think of the seat of government with spies lying around like your friend’s parents’ house after a night of illegal drunkenness, but the historic building saw at least one rocker knocked down when Obama in office.

That rocker is Bono, the writer of the memoir Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story and a person suffering from an allergy to salicylates which occasionally causes him to “fall asleep somewhere” after having a glass of wine. Remembering a night of dinner and drinks at the White House, the Frontman of U2 tells BBC Radio 2 (via The Independent), “The 44th president of the United States, he mixes cocktails; he does not have too much, he is very measured. “

But the drinks were about to fall apart. “I had them and the wine and the allergy and I ended up slipping out for a kip and the president said to Ali [Hewson, his wife] after about 10 minutes, ‘Where has Bono gone?’ She said, ‘He’s just gone to sleep.’ [Obama] he said, ‘I’m sorry?'” Bono said. “She said, ‘He’s got to, he’s got to go for that sleep, he’ll be back in 10 minutes. I’ve been with him for 30 years, don’t worry about it, President. I’ll go finding it.”.”

Ever the gentleman (or maybe just worried about letting an Irishman break into the house), Obama offered to take her in. “And he comes with her and (says) ‘Where can he be…? I know, he was asking me about Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.’”

The detective work was appropriate: “[There] I was in Lincoln’s bedroom, asleep, fallen asleep in Abraham’s own lap. He woke me up and laughed. The President laughed it off. “

Bono says “they were very, very good about it actually,” although the event had one unfortunate outcome. “[He] telling people that he drinks them under the table, that he doesn’t believe the allergy thing,” the musician admits. “It makes strong cocktails, though, just saying. “
