Internet Left in Hysterics at German Shepherd Hopping: ‘Super Effective’

The video is captioned: “I’m DYING for her shock,” and has been liked by 1.7 million people.

Brianne wrote that the match in the photo is between two golden retrievers and Laura, a German shepherd, but the odd numbers don’t seem to hold.

Brianne added the following caption to the video: “I can’t stop laughing at his little hops when he plays tug of war.”

Is Tug of War Good for Dogs?

The American Kennel Club (AKC) has stated that the sport has many benefits such as:

  • To promote impulse control
  • Building confidence
  • To strengthen the bond between dogs and their owners.

“It’s an activity that taps into natural drives, making it a motivating, reinforcing, and cost-effective training tool. It’s also a great way to burn off excess energy and keep your dog physically and mentally stimulated,” says the AKC.

Does Playing Tug Make a Dog Aggressive?

The game involves two dogs or a person and a dog on opposite ends of a leash but has caused fear and anger in some owners.

Preventive Vet says that pulling will not encourage fighting if played correctly, but people should not play this game with dogs that are already aggressive.

The pet education, safety, and behavior website also notes that the game is not for dogs “who are protective of their food, toys, etc.” such as “may reinforce unwanted behavior or patterns that already exist.”

“The Goldens are very boring when they play hard because they refuse to pull,” wrote another.

In the video, the golden retrievers’ lack of interest is not evident as one sits down while playing.

“I love that the Goldens are not worried at all, but the shepherd is having a full Karen moment,” another user wrote.

One TikToker joked: “My favorite part is that the vests make me feel like this is a workplace conflict.

“Works great I love this lol,” wrote another user.

Newsweek shared a similar story that Brianne posted in early November about a dog’s “weird” response to being left out in a tug of war.
