There are many business owners in Adams County with whom I disagree politically, and I know there are many who disagree with my political views, but I would never publicly or privately advocate for a boycott of these local businesses. In today’s world it is all too important to support local business and shop local.
There are several local idiots trying to boycott area businesses because they had the audacity to advertise in the program booklet for the 2021 Adams County Republican Committee Eisenhower Dinner.
These people want to hurt local businesses for buying a $100 ad in a booklet that was probably printed in 500 copies over a year ago, and that’s the audacity of these businesses. Local businesses that the latest moron specifically mentioned for the boycott include: Tommy’s Pizza, Hollabaugh’s Orchard, Dunlap’s Restaurant, Fourscore Brewery and Dobbin House.
I think the woman who is calling for local residents to boycott these long standing and successful businesses in our community is ignorant of the amount of food and service that each of these businesses give back to Adams County.
Each of these companies is a huge supporter of many non-profit organizations in the county, and all support school districts in the county with donations ranging from food to supplies to money.
I know the owners of all of these businesses, and you could not find better, more community-minded, dedicated, hard-working employers in our area. I don’t think the brainchild behind the boycott has considered how boycotting a local business affects their neighbors who work for those businesses or don’t care.
I wish we could all be as financially independent with morals as perfect as Beth Farnham’s and not have to worry about our financial future and live tight and self-righteous lives. I’m sure she’s running around shopping and eating at chain restaurants in Hanover today.
Everyone who cares is very aware of my political views and trusts me, a lot of people are boycotting the paper because of my views but I’m happy to say I’m not as small minded as them or Beth Farnham.
By the way, Beth, I can honestly say that none of the secret Adams County Republican meetings I’ve attended so we can change the future of the world have had any idea of boycotting a local business based on politics. discussed. I feel that Adams County Republicans care too much about our community and neighbors to punish them for their political views.
Roger Lund and I are as far apart politically as two people can be, but I admire his business acumen, his hard work, and I shop at all of his businesses. Jake Schindel and I have many political and personal differences, but that doesn’t stop my wife and daughter from going to his coffee shops on the weekends for coffee or hot chocolate, my wife and daughter enjoy drinks and food at Jake’s places of business.
Beta, boycotting a company because that company is exercising its first amendment right to promote its products and services seems to me to border on un-American and definitely crosses the line into pure stupidity. I remember an Adams County political candidate talking about boycotting businesses that advertise in local Republican publications. How did candidate Kwali do in November?
By the way, I wrote this column while having lunch at Dunlap’s, now I’m going to Hollabaugh’s for fresh fruit, I plan to grab pizza at Tommy’s tonight, and I’m taking my family to the Dobbins house for dinner this weekend.
