Samuel Eto’o throws shade at Thierry Henry claiming his former Barca team-mate was ‘not on my level’

Samuel Eto’o has sensationally claimed he was operating at a different level to his former Barcelona team-mate Thierry Henry.

The former Cameroon striker played alongside Henry for two seasons at Barça, but believes the Frenchman was not at ‘my level’.

He went on to claim that France and Arsenal’s record goalscorer Henry – widely regarded as one of the greatest strikers of all time – was not even as good as compatriot Nicolas Anelka.

Eto’o’s attack on Henry emerged after a leaked video was posted by footballerand no French striker has responded to the 41-year-old’s outlandish claims.

He said: “I think Thierry Henry was not at Anelka’s level.

“Titi was good, but I knew the players. I preferred other players. In any case, he was not on my level. The luck or bad luck I had was not to play for France.

“Those who played in France had plus 70 percent. Not because they were strong, but because France sells them better.

Eto’o and Henry spent two seasons together under Pep Guardiola in one of Barcelona’s most successful sides in history, winning a treble in 2008-09.

Furthermore, the pair combined for 11 goals in 57 games for the Catalan giants, although both were largely playing second fiddle to the up-and-coming Lionel Messi.

The Cameroonian and Anelka also spent time together at Barca’s Clasico rivals Real Madrid, although with both nearing the start of their respective careers, they failed to share a pitch together for Los Blancos in competitive football.

Ahead of Henry’s arrival at the Catalan club, the now former Everton, Chelsea and Inter striker dismissed talk that the Frenchman could replace him at Barca, insisting the two could play in the same team.

He said: ‘This is not my problem. It is that of Frank Rijkard.

“Some journalists wanted to create tension between me and Titi. I’m laughing. “Titin” is on my phone all the time. If he comes to Barca thinking he’s going to put Samuel Eto’o on the bench, I say no. We will play together. We will be teammates.

“I do not enter into any controversy. I would like the coach to sign ‘Titi’. He is my friend.’
